Jim began playing guitar in the early 60’s, influenced by guitarists such as Charlie Christian, Kenny Burrell, Barney Kessel and T-Bone Walker. Originally a trumpet major he played guitar in the college stage band and later went on to the guitar chair for the 298th Army Band while stationed in Berlin, Germany in the late 60’s. After his return to the states he began working the Texas club circuit, primarily playing bass during the 70's with Texas songwriter, Tommy Alverson. (Man! Those were the days...) He then relocated to the Washington, DC area in 1984 he has been playing ever since. He is currently the guitarist for Speak Low, a jazz quintet based in the DC area. And, when the occasion calls for it, he enjoys doing a single with just his guitar and voice.

His early vocal influences included Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday and, as a result, does jazz and blues in a unique, earthy style

• Been playing professionaly most of my life.

• I am retired now and want to play out as much as possible. I am particularly interested in playing either guitar or bass in a swing/jump blues band. I also like small (trio) settings in which everyone can sing.
