Sanctum was formed in the spring of 2002 through a fortuitous meeting on a St Louis "musicians Wanted" web board ( www.stlmusic.com). Guitarists Rob Gray and Shane Witt initially discovered their compatible musical interests, and quickly met drummer Eric Boschert. A few weeks later bassist Greg Coan found the band through the same web board. From these beginnings the group immediately knew they had found the right people and began song writing. Having completed there first four song demo in 2003, with rave reviews. The band looked forward to putting some bite back into American Heavy Metal. Time progressed and soon Mike Christeson replace Greg Coan on bass guitar in 2004, adding another dimension of creativity to the group. Yet again as time had passed and several gigs later, Jesse Cook had come to replace original drummer Eric Boschert in 2004. Yet still the band continued too push forward with a vengeance. While continuously playing shows along with other powerful St Louis metal bands, Sanctum has and continues to bombard the local St Louis metal scene with a large and powerful acceptance. Places like The Creepy Crawl, The High Point, Ciceros, and Pops have all welcomed the band. As the fan base continues to expand in great numbers with each show Sanctum continues to write new material. Keeping the fans wanting and needing more. Based in St Louis, Missouri, Sanctum fits into the Thrash / Speed Metal genre, with a bit of Death Metal on the edges. All the members are experienced musicians who cull their tastes from a variety of influences. These range from the older bands they grew up with; Iron Maiden, Exodus, Over Kill, and Mercyful Fate, to newer bands currently on their personal play list; Arch Enemy, Witchery, Lamb Of God, and Deicide, to name a few. Sanctum, like all successful bands, has sought to develop their own style while not forgetting the roots of metal that made it all possible. The result is a powerful mix of riffs teetering on time changes and tempting the mosh pits. Sanctums full length cd is due in mid/late 2007 and looks to be very brutal!!
