Looking For
  • I have one peculiar rule that seems to be a problem for many musicians: zero tolerance for recreational drugs of any kind. If you feel like you have to have a joint between sets, we won't be good partners. Drinking a bit is OK. Getting drunk on a gig is not. If that doesn't scare you off, read on.

I am working up an act for "world" music blending Middle Eastern rhythms with modal blues and mixing in exotica, lounge, and Latin influences. I want to make it mellow enough to be suitable for dinner music, rhythmic enough to be suitable for Middle Eastern dancing, and different enough to sound new.

Performances would be mostly improvisational, but based on a fixed rhythm and scale/mode/maqam for structure. I plan to play soprano sax, marimba, and hand drums (obviously not at the same time) and might occasionally add tenor and baritone sax to the mix. I also have PA gear.

I need one or two musicians to complete the act. A piano/synth player would be the minimum. Adding a percussionist would be good. If both could switch off to additional instruments, it would be ideal.

A trio can play profitably at small venues, but I also want to do regular freebie charity gigs (for promotion and just for enjoyment). I have a good day job to feed the body. My music feeds the soul.

If all this interests you, drop me a line to discuss it.
