Musician - pinchhitter

pinchhitter
  • Age 40 | Musician | Lummi Island, WA

Bio
Male, 46 years old, Self employed, not necessarily looking for a full time gig, but could be persuaded if it all came together.
I am willing to get together as much as needed if the gig warrants it, but would prefer to only play once or twice a week.
More likely interested in a project or a couple of musicians to be part of a project. I like to play material that is interesting and intense. I tend to gravitate to extremes, I like a lot of dynamic range.
I like high energy, but I also like mellow intensity and groove oriented material. I can jump right in to most situations and wing it.
I can also pull off material that needs aux. percussion like timbales or congas, I an fairly polyrhythmic.

Experience
  • Age 46, I have been playing since 1976, I played professionally from 1980 to 1987 in the Phx. area, and occasional casuals after that. When I was working full time in music I was at a level where there wasn't a lot of rehearsal, just song lists and gigs. I played a lot of top 40, lounge and Latin/jazz/fusion. I also did a lot of pick up gigs with bands that were suddenly out of a drummer. There were a couple agents that used me as a pinch hitter for all kinds of last minute gigs and I kind of developed an addiction to doing last minute gigs with people I never met before the gig. I mainly like fusion, jazz, and Latin music that tends to cross over into other genres. I seriously try to avoid simple repetitious music that monkeys could be taught to play, such as rap, blues and country, actually rap doesn't belong in that list, it isn't music.
I will play just about anything though,if it is short term or, if it pays well.......(mercenary).
If I ever finish compiling a song list, it will be over 800 songs.
I am comfortable playing most pop/rock tunes and can easily sit in on jazz, Latin, or lounge material. I play both acoustic and electronic kits and have worked fairly large venues as a sound engineer and have plenty of sound reinforcement gear.
Looking For
  • A bass player, or stick player or keyboard player to form a fusion core.(We could duo if you have a good left hand). I also have a back burner fusion project with a guitarist/bassist and we could use a third player. Bass, keys or stick would be great.
I am interested in playing any pick up gigs or anything that involves Latin, jazz, progressive or some flavor that defies description. I am happy playing light background or odd time hard core fusion, it really doesn't matter as long as it's tasteful.
This doesn't have to be a working project, an occasional jam to keep the chops up would also be fine with me.
